1956 Corvette

VIN# E56S001708

Price: $49,500

THE STORY

The Early History of VIN E56001708 is unknown to us at this date since we have been unable to locate ANY records or information about the previous owner(s) of the car until around 1975.  The first 19+/- is a mystery to be solved.

Evidence during the bodywork stages does indicate the original color to be red over red. it came with a power white convertible top- mechanisms long gone. It also has a hardtop- originality not known, drivetrain- unknown.

According to the last seller (Larry), he was friends with a fellow GM plant manager (Donn) and during lunch breaks, they would discuss cars- Corvettes specifically. Donn shared he had a ’56 that he purchased around 1975+/- with (reportedly) an Alaska title and it needed significant repair. Custom features had already been done, e.g. 1958 taillights, exhaust exit elimination, repainted body to blue. (see pictures here).  Its odometer showed only------ miles which we all believe is correct.

Donn aspired to rebuild the car to NCRS standards but soon realized the magnitude of the task and abandoned the project. The car sat in Donn’s’ ownership in various states of disrepair until around 1991 (16+/- years)

Larry bought the car from Donn in 1991+/- completely disassembled and in boxes and crates. It also came with a new “GM frame” which we assume Donn purchased at some point  The frame has NOT had any suspension hung on it.

Larry purchased the car with the hope of having a project when he retired, and to build a “tribute” to his good friend Earl Harper- owner of the infamous and “one-of -a-kind” LATHAM AXIAL SUPERCHSRGED” 1957 Corvette. (click to article). His vision would be a red on red, supercharged LS3 with a SRIII custom frame and independent suspension.

Around 2016, Larry began in earnest to rebuild the car, and for the next 9+/- years spent countless “retirement” hours cutting out and restoring areas that were damaged, destroyed, neglected, or poorly repaired by previous owners. (see pictures).

But as in many cases, our goals aren’t reached and in 2025 Larry decided to sell the car.

Streetvisions has provided selected pictures to illustrate the ongoing stages of the restoration. Without question- every area of the car has been taken to the bone, improved, repaired, replaced and finished to our high standards. We have LOTS of pictures taken as each area of work progressed. We are not saying its flawless or perfect- but “PDG”.

The shiny trim pieces, chromes and bezels are either new or polished. Some pieces are great and some are driver quality++. A few pieces need replacement.

In my earlier C1 Forum posts with over 520 responses- the readers established that the reasonable buying price for a “project car “needing everything” was $20-25k. they also concurred that a quality body and paint job was wide ranging, from $15-30+k, depending on condition and location.

StreetVisions is representing that extensive parts and labor have been professionally done and the car is an EXCELLENT foundation for anyone that is looking for this kind of quality build. No disappointments. A quick look onsite at the 2 T-Bird show winners, the ’65 Mustang FB/Coyote resto, the ’48 Ford F5 and the ’65 Daytona with 1,000’s of hours in them provides the degree to which we push to excel.

StreetVisions would also join with its new owner to “BUILD OUT” the car to the owners’ personal vision and specifications.
